Artist Statement

Beauty does not come at the expense of the natural world

The Future of Art Is Rooted in the Past

Rebekah McBride grew up in Ireland, in the middle of the island. The influence of both studying product and Furniture design, and working in Restoration & conservation has impacted her personal style, and artistic methods.
she believes it is possible to create beauty and meaning and therefore valuable work with resourceful historical techniques.
particulary in the areas of frame restoration and paint making.

she believes all artists / creators should have a sense of responsibility in the work created, the lifespan and the after life of the work.

Ancient techniques of pigment processing for egg tempera can be seen in her Colour Hunt Experience, hosted in Paphos, Cyprus.
currently she is traveling all across the Greek islands to find locations to host another colour hunt.

'Not a manifesto'

The future of art is seen in the past

On the dry walls of the ancient caves

The rich natural colours from the earth

The plants full of bouncing light

The minerals absorb into the rocks

The binders which fuse the liquid colour are found in the layer of the tree, between the membrane and the bark,

The yolk of the egg,

In the layer under the skin,

Of the rabbit, the fish and the goat

Refine the pigments with water

Wash them & pour them

Dry them and grind them

Refine the powder between smooth rocks

The surface for application & decoration

Is of your desire

Consider texture, absorption and how the weather can influence

The tool for extending your movements

Is of your will

Consider stippling to block the colour

To build opacity

Consider lining to bring definition of shape

Inner world responding to the outer world

As above so it is below

Everything is connected
